CURWENSVILLE, PA. – Nominees for the Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging (MRAAA) Golden Rule Lightkeeper Awards have been announced. These awards are intended to recognize individuals in the community who have exemplified service above self to benefit others.

The Golden Rule Lightkeeper Award is the community’s highest level of recognition for deserving volunteers in categories including Youth Individual, Youth Group, Adult Individual, Adult Group, and the Fabric of our Community Award.

An awards presentation is planned for Noon on April 26, 2024, at the Copper Cork Event Center at 512 Arnold Avenue in Clearfield. Admission is $10 per person. CLEARFIELD, PA. Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture announce the distribution of Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) applications and checks by mail again this year.  Beginning April 19, individuals can call 814-765-2691 to receive a 2024 application.  The monetary benefit will be $50 in five $10 vouchers.  

The SFMNP goal for 2024 is to increase the number of seniors receiving the benefits and increase the state-wide check redemption rates.

Clearfield County seniors who are 60 years old or older before December 31, 2024, and meet the income requirement are eligible for $50 in vouchers to use at PA Farmer’s Markets.

Each person in a household receiving vouchers must be 60 years of age or older, including spouses.

The SFMNP does not include seniors who are living in nursing home facilities, convents, and residential facilities where meals are provided.

All 60-plus year-old residents living in Clearfield County that meet the income guidelines can receive their application by calling the MRAAA SFMNP phone number at 814-765-2691.  Follow the directions and your application will be mailed to you.  Fill it out and return it in the enclosed envelope to receive your vouchers.  Please leave only one phone message.

Meals on Wheels consumers will receive their applications with their noontime meal.

Mahaffey, PA. – Seniors aged 60 and over can benefit from a fall prevention program to be presented, free of charge, this spring in Mahaffey as part of the Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging’s Health and Wellness Program. “A Matter of Balance” is slated to run from 10:00 a.m. until Noon each Monday and Thursday, from April 29, through May 23, at the Mahaffey Center for Active Living, 958 Market Street, Mahaffey, PA 15757.

A Matter of Balance is a program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. The program is designed to benefit older adults who are concerned about falls, have sustained falls in the past, restrict activities because of concerns about falling, are interested in improving flexibility, balance, and strength, and are age 60 or older.

Participants learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for increasing activity, make changes to reduce fall risk at home, and exercise to increase strength and balance.

CURWENSVILLE, Pa. – Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging (MRAAA) is in the process of designing the 2025 Lottery Calendar, and area business leaders are asked to help.  

This year’s theme will feature a photo of a Clearfield County industry each month.   

MRAAA requests area industry leaders send a photo of their business along with a brief bioThe MRAAA Advisory Council will work to select the photos that will appear in the main spread as well as on specific month pages. Staff will additionally review photos to make sure they contribute to the well-being and economy of Clearfield County.

Rotary Dictionary Project Copy resized 2Third graders at Clearfield Elementary School recently received their own dictionaries from members of the Clearfield Area Rotary Club, Chinklacomoose Chapter, and representatives from Mature Resources, through the Rotary Dictionary Project. CLEARFIELD, PA. – Representatives from Mature Resources joined fellow members of the Clearfield Area Rotary Club, Chinklacomoose Chapter on March 21, to distribute free dictionaries to third grade students at Clearfield Elementary School.

The Rotary Dictionary Project is a nationwide effort by Rotary International and chapters across the United States to provide young students with their own, personal dictionaries.
